Most famous Spanish athlete? Rafael Nadal Parera!

Famous Spanish tennis player rafael nadalRafael Nadal was born in Manacor (Mallorca) on the 3rd of June 1986.

He is currently ranked world No. 2 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
He has won 19 Grand Slam titles, 2 Olympic gold medals, 5 Davis Cups with the Spanish national team and 59 ATP tournaments. Impressive isn´t it? He is considered the greatest tennis player on clay courts. Therefore, he gained the nickname of “The King of Clay”.

Fun fact: Did you know that Nadal is left-handed only on the tennis court? He uses his right hand for all other activities, for example writing. The fact of being left-handed, it is and advantage in tennis because they draw trajectories that other players are less used to. Only 15 of the top 100 players are left-handed!

Spanish most famous singer? Our ´Hero´ Enrique Iglesias!

Famous Spanish singer enrique iglesias.Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born in Madrid on the 8th of May 1975.
He is the third and last child of the famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias and model Isabel Preysler.

The singer’s career took-off in 1996 after releaseing his second studio album “Vivir”. Enrique Iglesias won for this album a Grammy for “Best Latin artist” and he won the Billboard Music Award for “Best album of the year for a new artist”. Since then, he has never stopped producing worldwide hits. So far, he has sold around 180 million records worldwide. This makes him the best-selling Spanish artist ever!!!

Interesting fact: Did you know that Enrique Iglesias used a pseudonym when he promoted his demo? He was afraid, people would recognize him because of his famous dad.

 

Ever heard of Picasso? Pablo Picasso, Spain’s most famous painter

Famous Spanish painter Pablo picassoThe famous artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on the 25th of October in 1881. He was born in Malaga at the famous Plaza de la Merced. Nowadays we have a beautiful statue of him at that same square, close to his birth house.

The world-famous Spanish painter and sculptor, Pablo Picasso, was an absolute protagonist of the 20th century. He is considered the founder of cubism, together with Georges Braque. Between his countless universally known masterpieces, we quote the most famous ones: “Les demoiselles d’Avignon” (1907) and “Guernica” (1937).

Los Malagueños are proud to have such a magnificent painter being born here. In the center of Malaga you´ll find a great part of his artwork in the Picasso Museum. You also find at Plaza de la Merced the foundation Pablo Ruiz Picasso. This foundation, where you can find some of his famous artwork too, is based in the house where he was born.

Interesting theory: Did you know the theory from the Dutch neuroscientist Michel Ferrari? He claims that Picasso managed to make his paintings because he was suffering from migraine! In fact, the disproportionate and vertically cut faces would be the effect of the broken visions typical of this illness.

Spain most famous actor? Antonio Banderas!

José Antonio Domínguez Banderas was born in Malaga the 10th of August in 1960.

The Spanish actor, director, film producer and voice actor, made his debut in 1982
in the film “Labyrinth of passions”.  After numerous of supporting roles in famous
movies, Antonio Banderas was asked to play the main character for a new movie.
He got the big part in 1998 with the role of Zorro in the film “The Mask of Zorro”.
During his career, he has taken parts in numerous successful films such as”Interview with the vampire”, “Philadelphia”, “Once upon a time in Mexico”and the saga of “Spy Kids”.

Interesting fact: Did you know that Antonio Banderas´ dream was to become
a football player? He was a talented player but unfortunately on his 18th he was forced to quit playing football because of a fractured foot.

 

Felipe VI, the King of Spain

Famous Spanish king Felipe VIFelipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos of Bourbon and Greece was born
in Madrid on the 30th of January 1968. He was the third child of Sofia and Juan
Carlos, after his sisters Elena and Cristina.

At the age of eighteen, he swore allegiance to the Constitution and to the King in
the Spanish Parliament, accepting the role of successor to the Crown. In spring 2014, his father Juan Carlos abdicated: Felipe, therefore, officially became the King of Spain. He is the sixth monarch of his country with the name “Felipe”.

He attended the General Academy of Zaragoza, the Naval School in Pontevedra and the General Academy of Air of San Javier where he obtained military skills and knowledge.

He also studied law and economics at the Autonomous University of Madrid, obtained a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Georgetown. He participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, ranking sixth with the sailing team.

Interesting fact: Did you know that Felipe is 1,97 m tall?
He is the tallest heir to the throne of history and for this reason, he’s included
in the Guinness Book of Records!
